and so we're into the last two games for the quarters..
perhaps, there are a few others who don't believe that goalline tech should be pursued..
maybe there is good reason behind it?
right now we are only talking about goal-line incidents..goal or no goal..
if it were to be implemented..
will these same people people pushing for technology start asking to cover more ground in the game?
flashback to maradona's handball incident against england (it's always them isn't it? :P)
the ball did crossed the line.
no contest about that.
what about the way it is scored?
wouldn't there be a big hoo ha asking game authorities to extend technology to penalty box?
what next then?
that red card-elbow incident which the referee missed..
offside goal that gave argentina the first goal against mexico?
plus..have you ever watched nba games?
a closely fought match between two teams in the last quarter.
2 mins left on the clock could be a 8min long affair..
because of timeouts, foul and whatever rules there are in basketball..
there are so many stoppages..
it just breaks up the momentum of play..
i certainty wouldn't want that in my game, thinking back about the rj-nj game back then in sa where the bad weather brought stoppages to our game when we were chasing for goals.
and that's how i feel..that football should remain how it is..with an element of uncertainty in the game..
how fifa and the authorities feel could be different though.
with the use of technology, a referee has lesser control of the game.
IF a match has been fixed, he can no longer have as much influence over the game.
it's a conspiracy as to why fifa still doesn't want to bring in technology.
and in case you dont' know. soccer is kelong. match fixing is a real thing.
we've seen it in s league, seria A and i believe there is some form of it in epl as well.
if you asked me about the disallowed goal in eng-ger.
there was still the second half. there was more than enough time.
there were many big names on that pitch to know that they could still turn it around.
either no one wanted to lead or no one wanted to listen.
back then gerrard could lead liverpool from 3 goals down to snatch the champs league crown. what is a 1 goal defecit.
would a score of 2-2 have made any difference for england's fortune?
maybe.
it would have made a difference for me.
i would definitely have missed 2 swift counter attacks and wouldn't have known that english defenders are so soft.
the last 2 goals could have been been prevented.
with two yellow cards.
had de jong or van bommel been there,
one would have gotten a yellow at the right flank. the other at the edge of the penalty box.
the english players did not break up play and they paid for it.
netherlands could come back from behind largely because of the presence of those 2 mentioned.
of course they wouldn't be able to do much if they do not have attacking talent upfront as well.
we've seen how effective messi tevez higuan, kaka robinho fabiano has been.
and they can do so because they know they are covered.
the english game produces good box to box players largely due to the way epl is played.
they let their emotions run..and they play by their heart..
we've seen keane and vieria in the past..
this season milner has been really effective for villa.
lampard and gerrard has always been a key man for their clubs.
barry plays in the middle for man c.
and they are all key figures for their club.
and let's not forget rooney who likes to drop deep to collect the ball and shoot from range.
when the chips are down, we can rely on these players in their clubs to claw back.
but when you play all of them what do you have?
5 pple standing clustered at the edge of the penalty box waiting to shoot.
too bad we only have one ball.
and one erratic ball that only the japanese seem to know how to work it.
if lampard and gerrard is always taking shots..and there's no one on the left, right flank is ineffective who's going to feed the forwards?
the spanish have big names as well. fabregas alonso xavi iniesta but there is a balance in the starting line up unlike the english. and the key word is balance. busquets was called in place of marcos senna and alonso stays behind to help him out leaving the attack to villa, torres (ineffective! they should play llorente tonight), iniesta and xavi.
the main bulk of the players largely come from 2 clubs, and there is familiarity in the team. unlike the english where 1 or 2 key figures come together and find themselves with the same playing style.
there was no way the english players were going to make it to the finals let alone win the cup. and we can say bye bye to the golden generation many expected more from. they should consider international retirement and just produce excellent form for their club so that i have sth to look forward to during the weekends.
